The process of alumina coating on steel surfaces using the plasma electrolytic method is presented as a means to enhance corrosion resistance. The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics and effectiveness of this coating process. Methodologically, the experimental setup involved applying electrolytic aluminum-containing compounds to form a coating, and a thorough analysis was carried out on the morphology and properties of the resulting alumina layer. The results indicated that a micron-thick coating with a cauliflower-like morphology was achieved, measuring approximately 6 microns in average thickness. However, the coating's performance as a passive layer revealed only a slight increase in corrosion resistance, attributed to its lack of uniformity and suboptimal surface finish. Overall, while the plasma electrolytic saturation method shows potential for enhancing steel's corrosion resistance, further research is needed to improve the uniformity and quality of the coatings produced.
