This article explores the historical and cultural significance of the ancient texts Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid, examining their origins and the transformation of literary tradition through the centuries. The objective is to analyze how these epic poems have been shaped by the socio-political contexts of their time, particularly in relation to the rise of Christianity and the decline of classical civilization. Employing a historiographical approach, the paper investigates the impact of the Edict of Milan in 313 CE and the subsequent centuries of darkness that obscured earlier civilizations. It discusses the works of poet Publius Vergilius Maro and the monk Fabius Planciades Fulgentius, framing their contributions within a broader understanding of how myths were adapted and preserved in the face of erasure. The results reveal a complex interplay between truth and untruth in the creation and transmission of these texts, underscoring a manufactured sense of authenticity while critiquing the artistic merit of their surviving manuscripts. Ultimately, the narrative weaves together themes of cultural continuity and the construction of identity in the Euro-Mediterranean context.
