This research presents the relationship between crest factor (C.F) and power factor (P.F) in AC electrical equipment. Non-linear loads such as computers and other electrical loads have complex effects on uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. A locally made single-phase power factor correction (PFC) UPS equipment with 8kVA output power was developed to investigate three key objectives: (1) the causes of high crest factor and low power factor in electrical loads within a power transmission system, (2) the interdependence of crest factor and power factor for various electrical loads applied to an AC source, and (3) methods for achieving a stable crest factor in the distribution system and enhancing the power factor. The findings indicate that high crest factor currents and voltages diminish the power factor of electrical loads. In the six electrical loads examined, an increase in the crest factor of either current or voltage led to discrepancies between the apparent and real power calculated from measured data. By suitably integrating P.F.C into the input power supply circuit, improvements in crest factor and power factor were achieved, thereby minimizing power loss and extending the efficiency and lifespan of electrical loads.
