Barrick Gold Corporation has actively participated in the gold mining industry since 1983, operating various mines across North and South America. The objective of this document is to outline the metallurgical processes and technologies employed in gold ore extraction and processing. A comprehensive review of several processing methods, including acidic pressure oxidation, alkaline pressure oxidation, and bacterial oxidation, was conducted. These methods are evaluated concerning their application in different mining operations, such as the Goldstrike, Mercur, and El Indio mines. Additionally, the report explores free-milling and refractory gold ore processes, emphasizing the effectiveness of each method in recovering gold from complex ore types. The findings suggest that advancements in metallurgical processes significantly contribute to increased gold recovery rates, thereby impacting overall production targets. Results indicate a marked improvement in production efficiency and gold yield, with Barrick's output growing from 34,000 ounces in 1984 to an expected 3.1 million ounces in 1995, thus underscoring the importance of continuous innovation in mining metallurgy.
