Abstract

Language:

This study investigates the improvement of the engine connecting rod machining process using statistical process control (SPC) as a quality assurance tool. The objective is to enhance the process potential capability index (Cp) and performance capability index (Cpk) values to exceed 1.33. Employed methodology includes the define-measure-analyze-improve-control (DMAIC) approach, starting with process mapping to identify key quality characteristics (KQCs). The research measures KQC through a cause-and-effect diagram and data collection, followed by analysis involving calculation of capability indices and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) on mean values. The final phase utilizes process monitoring charts to manage deviations. Results indicate that standard deviation reduced significantly from 0.48 to 0.048, while Cp values improved from 0.12 to 1.72 and Cpk values from 0.12 to 1.37. The study confirms the effectiveness of the DMAIC approach in elevating process capability and ensuring consistent quality in engine components.
