Significant quantities of sludge and dust are generated as waste material from iron and steel industries, posing environmental challenges due to heavy metal pollution. This study addresses the recovery of zinc from blast furnace sludge using hydrometallurgical processes. The objective is to characterize the waste materials and identify the most effective treatment method. Methodologically, experiments were conducted to evaluate extraction conditions, including microwave power, leaching agent, acid concentration, solid/liquid (S/L) ratio, and extraction time, to optimize zinc removal while retaining iron in the solid phase. Results indicate that optimal conditions can significantly enhance zinc transfer into solution, thus contributing to the sustainable management of metallurgical wastes. This work highlights the importance of effective waste treatment technologies in minimizing ecological impacts and improving resource recovery in the iron and steel industry.
