Over the years, a number of methods have been developed to diagnose and monitor the electrical and mechanical integrity of power system equipment. Frequency response analysis (FRA) is one of the popular methods used for evaluating the electrical as well as mechanical condition of power system components, especially for power transformers. This review presents a comprehensive and chronological overview of FRA applications in power systems. The evolution of methodologies from early offline methods to advanced online approaches is discussed. The review aims to clarify the current state of FRA applications in power systems.
