The investigation of machinability tests for brass alloys focuses on various copper alloys, primarily zinc brass, which are notable for their varying zinc content. This study aims to assess the machinability of new brass alloys, specifically types 70 and 74, under drilling and turning conditions. The methodology involved conducting drilling tests with a constant yoke force and evaluating the shape of chips produced during turning operations using a designated turning tool (ISO 2525 2Y K10). The results indicated that while the mechanical properties of the two brass materials are relatively similar, material 74 exhibited superior performance in terms of surface roughness and overall machining behavior. Additionally, the cost-effectiveness of material 70, developed at VÚK in Virgin Brezany, was highlighted, presenting it as a viable alternative to the pricier material 74 manufactured by Wieland. The findings contribute valuable insights into the machinability of different brass alloys, aiding in their selection for industrial applications.
