Abstract

Language:

As the gold mining industry faces a challenging outlook, operations are seeking cost reduction strategies. This technical bulletin addresses the operational efficiency of gold electrowinning cells, an essential component in gold production. It aims to inform clients and stakeholders on techniques to optimize electrowinning processes amidst rising solution tails due to inadequate carbon movement and stripping capacity. The methodology includes a review of electrowinning theory, monitoring techniques, and calculations based on existing data from industry experts Roger Paul and Mike Costello. Discussion centers on the Mintek type cell, offering insights relevant to other electrowinning cell designs. Key factors affecting electrowinning efficiency are highlighted, alongside actionable strategies to enhance performance and address challenges in the current mining landscape. The results suggest that improved understanding and application of operational parameters can lead to significant efficiency gains in gold recovery operations.
