The increasing reliance on lithium ion batteries for energy storage presents significant challenges regarding their end-of-life management and recycling. This study aims to investigate the various recycling processes of lithium ion batteries, exploring the associated environmental and economic implications. Employing a qualitative assessment methodology, we conducted interviews with industry experts and analyzed existing literature to identify best practices and barriers within battery recycling frameworks. Our findings illuminate the complexities in the current recycling landscape, highlighting the need for enhanced stakeholder collaboration and regulatory frameworks that support sustainable practices. Results indicate that while technological advancements have improved recycling efficiencies, significant gaps remain in policy implementation and consumer awareness. The paper concludes with recommendations for improving the holistic management of lithium ion battery recycling to foster a more circular economy.
