The study investigates the properties of spider silk, a biopolymer known for its impressive mechanical characteristics and biocompatibility, making it suitable for medical applications. Given the increasing interest in the use of natural biopolymers in reconstructive medicine, this research focuses on the mechanical and structural properties of recombinant spidroin 1. Employing methods such as scanning electron microscopy, the scaffold created from this biopolymer was analyzed after a 24-hour incubation. Results showed that spider silk exhibits superior tensile strength, comparable to materials like steel and Kevlar, while maintaining a high degree of elasticity and resistance to rupture. Structural features of the silk, including its molecular organization and the presence of β-sheets, contribute to its unique mechanical properties. The study concludes that spider silk polymers, due to their environmental stability, biodegradability, and ability to be modified for enhanced functionality, hold considerable promise for future medical applications. This research adds to the understanding of biopolymer utilization in medicine, suggesting pathways for integrating spider silk into biocompatible materials for various therapeutic purposes.
