Department of Industrial and Production Engineering
This lab manual is designed for students in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysuru, focusing on metallography and material testing. The objective of the lab is to provide students with hands-on experience in analyzing the mechanical properties of materials under various types of external loads, including tension, torsion, and bending. Methodologically, students will perform a series of experiments designed to reinforce classroom theory, such as testing material behavior, studying mechanical characteristics like hardness and creep, and examining fracture modes under different conditions. Results from these experiments will enable students to determine material properties and characteristics, understand the effects of heat treatment processes, and identify microstructures through metallographic examination. This practical experience aims to equip students with the skills necessary for professional practice, culminating in a comprehensively prepared report reflecting their findings and analyses.
