Abstract

Language:

Groundwater contamination by nitro aromatic compounds (NACs) and nitrate poses significant environmental challenges. The objective of this study is to explore novel catalytic applications for the transformation of NACs and the reduction of nitrate in groundwater systems. Utilizing batch and flow-through systems, the methodology involved the reduction of nitro groups and subsequent treatments to achieve complete removal of transformation products. The results indicate that efficient reduction of NACs can be accomplished through catalysts, demonstrating effective biotransformation pathways and enhanced reaction rates under controlled conditions. This research reveals the potential for engineered treatment techniques to address aquifer contamination, suggesting that further investigation is essential for establishing practical applications in field conditions. The findings advocate for innovative remediation strategies to mitigate the impact of NACs and nitrate pollution in groundwater supplies.
