Thixoforming is a novel and promising technology that allows for the formation of complex aluminum parts with superior quality while reducing processing steps. The success of thixoforming depends on the production of a fine, equiaxed, globular microstructure, which is achieved through the Strain Induced Melt Activation (SIMA) process and the Cooling Slope (CS) casting route. This study investigates the production of AA6082 thixotropic feedstock using both SIMA and CS methods. The effect of cold work, soaking conditions, CS length, and casting temperature on the final microstructures were examined. Results indicate that optimizing these parameters is crucial for enhancing the quality of the feedstock. The findings showed a significant correlation between the processing conditions and the resulting microstructure, enabling better thixoforming capabilities for the AA6082 alloy. This research contributes to the understanding of feedstock production methods for thixoforming, highlighting the viability of using SIMA and CS routes in producing high-performance thixotropic materials for industrial applications.
