Solar power generation technologies are crucial for meeting the growing demand for clean and renewable energy due to their cost-effectiveness compared to other renewable power sources. The objective of this study is to analyze the sustainability and competitiveness of solar power generation, particularly in relation to fossil-fuel energy. A comprehensive review of current solar power technologies, including photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) systems, is conducted. The methodology involves examining various PV technologies such as single and multicrystalline, thin film cells, organic/inorganic dye-sensitized cells, and multijunction solar cells, evaluating their trends and performance. The results indicate that solar power generation is projected to become not only sustainable but also competitive within the next decade, thereby providing a viable alternative for electricity production in both grid-connected and distributed systems. This paper highlights the increasing adoption of solar power technologies, reinforcing their role in the transition toward a more sustainable energy future.
