Polyaniline epoxy blend coatings on mild steel have been investigated using various electrochemical methods in different solutions, namely neutral, acidic, and alkaline. The objective of this study was to evaluate the corrosion protection performance of these coatings. Experimental results indicated that coatings containing emeraldine base offered superior corrosion protection in sodium chloride (NaCl) solution compared to those based on conducting polyaniline. Even in the event of a breach in the coating, emeraldine base demonstrated effective protection. In contrasting conditions, protonated polyaniline exhibited enhanced performance in acidic environments. The research underscores the variability of corrosion protective capabilities contingent upon the type of polyaniline and the pH of the solution. These findings emphasize the necessity to adapt polyaniline-based coatings to specific environmental conditions for optimal efficacy. This research contributes to a clearer understanding of the mechanisms underlying corrosion protection provided by polyaniline, highlighting both advantages and limitations in practical applications. Further investigation is warranted to elucidate the protective mechanisms fully.
