Turnaround maintenance in the oil and gas industry is a four-yearly total facility shutdown for equipment maintenance and overhaul, but not all equipment qualifies for turnaround maintenance (TAM). This study applies Weibull reliability analysis to live data from an offshore crude oil production platform (DP-A) to identify which equipment should be included in TAM by evaluating their availability, unavailability, reliability, and unreliability, with the Weibull shape parameter β as the key determinant. A β < 1 indicates reliability growth (decreasing failure rate/infant mortality), β = 1 indicates a constant failure rate (random failures), and β > 1 indicates deterioration (increasing failure rate/wear out). The computed β factors for DP-A equipment are: Wing valve positioner 0.95, Wellhead control panel 0.72, FRAMO pump 0.44, HVAC chiller 0.33, Water injection pump 0.95, HPU compressor 0.74, Choke actuator 0.80, and Heater blower fan 0.37. These results enable prediction and scheduling of maintenance interventions and support the selection of equipment appropriate for inclusion in turnaround campaigns versus on-the-fly maintenance. The presented model can be used to optimize maintenance planning, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance reliability on offshore production platforms, and it is recommended that oil and gas companies adopt this approach for offshore facilities.
