A scheme for the enrichment of magnetite iron-ore concentrates with a total iron content of 31% has been developed using a magnetic separator to obtain a superconcentrate with 69.50% Fe. The study experimentally determined that the degree of reduction reaction of iron by coal increases linearly as the iron content in the concentrate rises. Furthermore, this increase positively affects the decrease in the presence of iron-containing components that are more challenging to reduce and possess poor magnetic properties during wet magnetic separation (WMS). The results indicate that almost all iron in the produced superconcentrates exists in a readily reducible form of magnetite, accompanied by an increase in the specific surface area of the concentrate during the enrichment process. This work contributes essential insights into the metallization technology, which has been rapidly developing, particularly using coal as a reducer, and highlights the significant increase in the global production quota for metallized raw materials.
