Electrical devices, which are commonly used in households, industries, and commercial applications, require modifications to their power for optimal operation. Typically, rectification is necessary for proper functionality and enhanced performance. These electrical devices exhibit non-linear loads, resulting in non-sinusoidal current and a poor power factor. This research paper presents the design of an active power factor correction (PFC) circuit using a Buck Converter type of Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) to improve the power factor. The input parameters utilized are 220V and 50Hz. Furthermore, the Average Current Mode Control (ACMC) method has been implemented to evaluate the impact of the corrected active power factor on the circuit. The study begins with an examination of the power factor and the design of the proposed PFC system. The P-SIM software (version 6.1) is used for circuit design and waveform observation, providing a robust simulation environment for power electronics and power conversion systems. Finally, the simulation results are compared with previously adopted research findings, highlighting the advantages of PFC in enhancing energy efficiency and overall system performance.
