Worldwide, the majority of primary nickel is produced from sulphide ores; however, the trend is shifting towards lateritic ores due to their abundant reserves, which account for about 72% of the world's land-based nickel resources, combined with the benefits of hydrometallurgical processes in nickel extraction. This study investigates the fundamental parameters of the High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) process, including leaching temperature, duration, acid-to-ore ratio, feed size, and heat treatment of the ore prior to the leaching process, alongside the effects of additives like HCl, NaCl, Na2SO4, and FeSO4 on nickel extraction from Western Anatolian, Manisa/Gördes lateritic nickel ore. The optimal values for these process parameters have been determined for this specific type of lateritic nickel resource, providing insights for improving nickel recovery. The findings suggest the feasibility of enhancing nickel extraction from lateritic ores through carefully controlled HPAL parameters.
